Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

What comes to a persons mind when I ask, “Are you saved?” To the majority of Christians, salvation means receiving the gift of eternal life through the person of Jesus Christ after confessing and repenting of their lifestyle of sin. Throughout the New Testament, however, the word saved has a much broader meaning. The Greek word for saved is sozo, and it is used fifty-seven times in the English translation of the Bible. In the Strong’s Concordance, the word sozo means, “to save, deliver, protect, and heal.” Thus, salvation is a complete work of making a person whole in their spirit, soul, and body. During the earthly ministry of Jesus the Bible makes it clear that He made people whole. In Matthew 9:21, the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus garment and was made whole.

Matthew 9:21-22 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

In these two verses the word whole is used three times which is the Greek word sozo. Again, this is the same word when we talk about being saved from sin. Wow, what an amazing thing to comprehend that Jesus didn’t just take our sins but He took our sicknesses, diseases, infirmities, oppression so we could experience total peace in our spirit, soul and body. For years I thought that salvation was only connected to our sins being forgiven and of course I’m not making light of that, however, understanding the Greek words and how they are used really stirred up my faith. Something powerful is released when we take the time to meditate, ponder, and speak to ourselves the Word of God. Some of the most wonderful healings will occur when you meditate on these truths and take time to see it in your heart and mind. Someone once said, “What Jesus took at Calvary, we need not take”.

Speak the Word:
I am made whole spirit, soul and body through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Salvation has surely come to my house and I refuse to suffer for things Jesus suffered for me. Today, I take my stand on God’s Word and I will not quit or give up on my faith but I will receive everything that rightfully belongs to me.
