1 Samuel 17:44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
Goliath is always a type of the devil who speaks words that intimidate and are meant to produce fear. This giant named Goliath would come out every day and speak to the children of Israel and they became greatly afraid because of what he said.
1 Samuel 17:11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
David, however spoke back to the giant and said some things and didn’t keep silent. This is a real key when dealing with demons and evil spirits in this world. You see, the greatest weapon we have is the word of God in our mouths. Someone once said, “Never run at your giant with your mouth closed.” There has to be a realization that God’s word is THE GREATEST weapon we have against the enemy. After all, didn’t Jesus prove this in the temptations that are recorded in the word Of God? Our weapons are not natural but spiritual. There have been many times in my life when the circumstances of life came against me but when I opened my mouth and began to declare the word of God the devil packed his bags and left. I will say though, that sometimes you have to take a firm stand and not be moved by the five physical senses. We must begin to boldly speak in the face of our giants the word of the Lord in order to obtain victory over him. Anyone in Israel could have done what David did when facing the giant but they yielded to fear instead of faith. Remember, you have everything it takes to defeat your enemies in this life through the shed blood of Jesus.
