Psalm 29:3-9
3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
7 The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
8 The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
There are plenty of voices in the earth today and every voice has significance but the one that is more important than any other voice is God’s. The news media has a voice, people have a voice, and our friends have a voice and so on. Recently the Lord began to deal with my heart about fasting the news media for a season and to concentrate on hearing God’s Word. One of the things that got my attention is that how much bad news comes across the news media. Fear is propagated through their words and transmitted into people’s hearts. Whether we realize it or not we live in a day where information is constantly coming at us via radio, television, internet, cell phones etc. As much as these means of communication can be helpful they can also be harmful if we don’t use them properly.
Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. 25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
Jesus mentioned here that we are to pay attention to what we hear. Another words, be selective about what you hear because what we hear will definitely affect your heart. In our house we have a water filter that takes out any impurities once the water is poured into it. The filter removes the bad but keeps the good for drinking. This is exactly what the Word and the Holy Spirit will do when we take the time to listen intently to what God is saying through His Word.
